Engaging Workshop on Emotions in Democracy
Pulse of Democracy is a unique opportunity to reflect on the powerful role emotions play in shaping collective actions, community life, and public policies. Whether you're an activist, community leader, public administrator, researcher, or active citizen, this workshop is designed to help you explore how emotions influence public debates and decision-making processes.
Be a Founding Voice in the Democratic Design Coalition
This event is also the launch of the European Democratic Design Coalition, a network connecting local actors across Europe. Together, over the next three years, this coalition will co-create public policy recommendations and develop democratic infrastructures that reduce the negative impact of political grievances and foster more inclusive, emotionally-aware democratic dialogue.
Guests:
Alícia Puig is a City Specialist at Democratic Society. Alícia brings her experience working on Barcelona City Council during 5 years in projects related to climate change, urban transformation and participation. She is currently focusing on fair green transition and the power of local administrations to pave the way in sustainability.
What to Expect:
Introduction to the PLEDGE Project: Learn about the European PLEDGE project and its mission to study the emotional dynamics in political grievances and public debate.
Reflection on Emotions in Public Life: Participate in a guided discussion on how emotions like fear and anger are increasingly driving public policies and debates, often leading to deep polarization.
Sharing Personal Experiences: Share your own experiences on how emotions have impacted your collective actions or public engagements, and learn from others in the room.
Collaborative Mapping Exercise: Work together to map the emotional dynamics that influence collective behavior, creating a foundation for future research and policy recommendations within the PLEDGE project and the European Democratic Design Coalition.
Domenico Di Siena is a City Learning Manager at Democratic Soceity. He promotes and develops processes that help local authorities and organisations to collaborate with citizens to generate Collective Intelligence processes with positive impact on the territory.
